“Vallée du Lot et du Vignoble”

Far away from mass tourism, in unspoilt nature, the village of Mauroux (south-western France) lies at the crossroads of the departments of Lot, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne.

The limestone, after which Quercy Blanc is named, provides an ideal breeding ground for the numerous vineyards of the “Pays de Cahors”, where a very powerful round red wine (malbec) is made.

You can also find rose and white wine from the Vallee du Lot. Local products abound! You can get a culinary surprise in one of the many good restaurants or get inspired at one of the local markets.

The region (Lot and Lot et Garonne) is famous for its goat cheeses, truffe noire, safran de quercy, honey, duck breast and duck liver pate, apples, cherries, plums and melons.

Attractions & activities

Cahors wines

Amid vineyards, so there are numerous wine estates worth visiting, including Château Domaine de Latuc. You can also get a tour and tasting there.

Markets

Highly recommended are the markets of Montcuq, Prayssac, Montaigu de Quercy, Monsempron-Libos, Villeneuve sur Lot and, of course, Cahors. And then of course the nice summer evening markets (marchés gourmands) where the ‘locals’ also find their entertainment.

Villages & towns

Pretty picturesque villages and bastides such as; Puy L’Evêque, Tournon d’Agenais, Penne d’Agenais, Montflanquin, Montpazier and Pujols.

Cities such as Villeneuve sur Lot, Cahors, Agen, Bergerac, Montauban and Toulouse guarantee nice terraces, beautiful architecture and lively shopping streets.

Rocamadour and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie are the region’s most popular tourist attractions and for good reason, as they are impressively beautiful.

Châteaux de Bonaguil and Biron, are recommended for young and old alike.

The beautiful city of Toulouse, and just outside it “Cite de Espace” & Airbus.

Relaxation and fun for the whole family !

Mother nature

The wonders of mother nature; the impressive Gouffre de Padirac, Grotte de Pech Merle and the small but fun Grotte de Lastournelle.

Many footpaths and cycling routes (watch out, those hills are tough!). Therefore very suitable for cycling and mountain biking. Horse riding is also great in this area.

The water

The Lot River lends itself perfectly to fun on and around the water. Canoeing past the pretty village of Puy L’Êveque or exploring Cahors from the water gives a completely different view of the city and is well worthwhile.

Not to mention carp fishing in the river Lot.

Canoe trips can also be made on the Célé and Dordogne rivers. Suitable for the whole family (from 5 years of age).

The swimming lake in Montcuq with its sandy beach is a nice refreshing change.

Last but not least

The friendly animal park Z’animoland, is great fun to do with the little ones!

The sports highlight for the whole family: Parc-en-ciel, the outdoor climbing and scrambling park. For children from 3 years!

Just outside the city of Agen is Walibi AquitaineWalibi Aquitaine, the region’s largest amusement park.
